As we were leaving the Allegheny National Forest on a Sunday we discovered poor alignment had caused a tire to wear into the steel belt and cause a slow leak. With no service or tires available in Warren we gingerly drove to Altoona on a somewhat marginal spare.
After parking the trailer and food I parked the truck one place adjacent to my preferred spot next to the motel entry ramp ready for Monday tire replacement day. We could not see the truck from our room but in the morning the remote showed the alarm had been tripped and I found a nice LED flashlight behind the truck. Apparently during the night a drunk slid off the ramp into my preferred parking spot missing the truck by inches. Someone from the emergency crews bumped the truck, left me a flashlight I still have, a truck with only bad tires, and a great deal of relief.
After new tires we spent another week in the Altoona area visiting the local Railroaders Memorial Museum, the world famous Horseshoe Curve, and Gallitzin where the train tunnel exits in the middle of town. We also made a full day loop around Raystown Lake and a visit to the Isett Acres Museum.
