Finally getting back to San Antonio I had the opportunity the revisit and re-photograph the missions and replace the pictures I lost somehow. Staying here for three weeks we also took the opportunity to visit the San Antonio Zoo which was wonderful and the San Antonio Botanical Garden which was predictably dry. We also enjoyed the Japanese Tea Garden built in an old quarry, The Quarry where we discovered a wonderful Mongolian stir-fry, and the Riverwalk which extends well beyond downtown and over the years we have hiked most of it. I have actually started these pages because we will keep returning in later years and I will have more than a few photographs to add in the future.
Just around the corner from Mission Concepcion was this market and a wonderful mural. It actually took several visits to catch it without cars parked in front of it.
Then just because they are fun and we like most bugs is what Texans call stink bugs from the smell when they are crushed. I really did not notice a smell but they are EVERYWHERE and especially frustrating when they invade the truck at any opportunity.
Overall we had a great time but it is very hard to get any sympathy at suffering through shorts and tee shirt weather in January when our friends in Ohio are dealing with sub zero temperatures.
San Antonio was my major disappointment for 2007. We stopped here taking the roundabout way to Corpus Christi from Houston specifically to see the missions. I think I got the memory cards mixed up and reused this one before getting it downloaded to the computer. Not to worry, we have now spent several months in San Antonio and there will be plenty of pictures as I get a few more years completed.
