With our garden membership allowing us free admission to many locations we were trying to take advantage and visited the Pacific Rim Bonsai Museum on the south end of Puget Sound near Tacoma. This is a rather unique display and is truly a museum displaying living works of art. Art is not really my thing and I miss a lot of the finer nuances but I really appreciate the plaques describing the history of the individual trees.
The Bonsai come in a very wide variety of sizes and most are placed in their own individual alcove with a cream or neutral gray wall behind that is ideal for photography when they are not so big they overwhelm the alcove like this Japanese Maple. It is very hard to tell the size just from the picture which is the whole point of bonsai making a tiny plant look like an ancient giant.
Other than the small stone plate sitting on the white table this grove looks like a forest glade we see frequently in our travels.
Here again are varieties this time in the type of basic plant. They are not always cedars.
This is a garden so they also have some of the more conventional plantings in a rather small area. I don't know what the yellow flowers are other than Lori's favorite color. The purple bells are foxglove which is the original source of the heart drug digitalis. I knew about red and black raspberries but I was rather surprised at the orange raspberries. There are several varieties and we found more up north so I was able to take the grand-kids out to pick them.
