Nasher Sculpture Center 2009
Dallas, Texas

The Nasher Sculpture Center occupies most of a city block in downtown Dallas a rather nice walk from the Trinity Railway Express and just across the street from the Crow Museum of Asian Art which was actually our primary interest. Since the center offered free admission on the first each month Saturday we used that as an excuse to take advantage of the free parking at the airport station and take a train ride which Lori loves..

Dance Sculpture

During our visit students from one of the local schools, I believe it was part of Duke University, was demonstrating modern interpretive dance at each of the outdoor exhibits. Like the majority of the sculptures, modern dance does not make a whole lot of sense to me but it focused the crowd in a small area and let me get photographs more easily so I totally approve.

Here on the right is one of the sculptures I can at least partially relate to. I'm sure the purists and art snobs could go on for hours on the significance of each color and shape. I just thought it was cute, whimsical, and good for a chuckle.

Sculpture Sculpture

Probably only us older folks remember the commercial Is it real or is it Memorex? Which of the figures looking up at the tree of evolution sculpture are themselves actual people or just additional sculptures. Even up close in person the mannequins are well done.

The ranks headless suits reminds me of corporate culture and for some reason the blond appeals to me.

Sculpture Sculpture Sculpture Sculpture

Rather unusual for an art museum is this moving sculpture just pounding, pounding, pounding away. And on that ringing note it is time we were moving on to see the Asian art before they close.
