Most notable for us, Benbrook on the southwestern corner of the Dallas Fort Worth megolopolis has a very nice federal campground we can stay cheap with Lori's Golden Age Pass.
While it is reasonably close to the the Botanical Garden, Japanese Garden, and the Zoo in nearby Fort Worth. It is also far enough from the city lights to avoid major light polution. Despite my allergy to mornings here is a photograph of the sunrise over Benbrook Lake, a view of the wonderful wildflowers that were blooming in early spring, and a picture of the Big Dipper despite the lights of DFW.
Closeup the wildflowers were spectacular and we enjoyed just wandering over the fields.
