Cave Run 2010
Kentucky

The Cave Run federal campground has become one of our favorite places to camp in Kentucky since they basically converted Grayson State Park to a resort park. Here is a lot of cheap camping with good facilities and access to local attraction like the Barn Quilts we discovered and have now spent a lot of time chasing around the state.

Sailboat on Lake

Cave Run has a huge lake suitable for power boats but we have also found it nice for sea kayaks. On one of our pre-retirement trips here with a tandem kayak borrowed from Columbus Outdoor Pursuits we belonged to in Ohio we strapped the cage for our young guinea pig between us so she did not stay in the hot truck. Ever after when I took the whitewater kayak out she needed a short ride in my lap or she would scream if I took off without her.

Shelf Fungus

I have included photographs of shelf fungus on several other pages but I think this is the only time I have encountered it in green rather than gray or slightly brown.

Turkey Vultures Turkey Vultures

Finally here over our campsite are well over a hundred of natures garbage men the Turkey Vulture I have shown on several other pages. Normally we see from one to three flying almost every place in the country but this is the only time I have seen a huge flock early in the morning getting their day organized and deciding who gets to fly in which direction to make sure everyplace is cleaned up properly.
