Mount Rainier 2008
Washington

Mount Rainier is basically synonymus with Washington and the state emblem. Tall mountain, heavy snow, and spring all equate to waterfall hunting time. We were just passing through and did not stop at Mount Rainier NP but there were plenty of waterfalls along the road and we may have missed the great ones but we did not need to hike.

Mountain Lake Waterfall Waterfall

I am not really sure which of the many lakes is this one. It's close enough you can barely see Mt Rainier in the far background so we were probably just entering the south side of the park.

Even this far away the waterfalls are starting and there are so many we really have to pick and choose where to stop or we may never make it to Seattle.

Rolling along we are getting closer to a nicer view of Mount Rainier and the waterfalls continue to get better and better.

Sometimes the waterfalls are even manmade like this one flowing down the road cut. I imagine the ice can get really bad in the winter.

Road Passing Through Snow Mountain Landscape

Once we get on the north slope there is still plenty of snow along the road but all the roads were clear except for an occasional wet strip. Back out of the heavy trees the snow is mostly melted and here we are getting a glimpse of Mount Rainier on the other side of the hills.

Finally on the north side of the park we get my best picture of Mount Rainier in all it's magesty. There are a lot better places to photograph the peak but for a quick shot along the road this is about as good as it gets. I also stopped for one last waterfall as we were leaving the park trying to get settled in the motel on the north side of Seattle before dark.
