The San Antonio Riverwalk usually refers to a canal/river loop in the downtown area below street level which is highly commercial. This central portion also connects to an extensive trail network extending from north of the I-35 inner belt to south of the I-410 outer belt or about 3.5 miles as the crow or this case the grackle flies and it is anything but straight as over the years we have hiked the whole thing,
The downtown loop is a canal with sidewalks almost all the way around both sides. The high bridges allow gondola water taxis to pass around the loop and north to the old Pearl Brewery complex with stopping at all the major hotels along the way.
Getting out of downtown the street bridges have to be high enough for the walkway to pass underneath and many of them are decorated with these ceramic tile murals. As I get to later years there will be a lot more photographs along the Riverwalk and background details about it.
