The original Alamo Cement Company quarry was abandon and converted to the Japanese Tea Garden as the city expanded and now their replacement about 2.5 miles north has been converted into a major shopping, entertainment, and residential area.
The quarry pit itself is now a major golf course and the area around the old cement kilns is shopping with all the usual culprits, a large theater, apartments, and the Fire Bowl Cafe Mongolian stir-fry restaurant which is apparently as I write this in 2019 closed although a branch remains open in Austin, Texas.
