As part of our stay in Savannah, GA we made one excursion into the Savannah NWR before just heading north through Charlotte, North Carolina and on to Columbus, Ohio. There will be a lot more about the state in later years but for now we were in a hurry.
How they actually came up with the state boundaries must be a facinating story all by itself. Part of North Carolina juts into South Carolina to follow the Catawaba River and Lake Wylie then suddenly South Carolina juts into North Carolina to become southwestern Charlotte. Very confusing and I'm really glad we don't have to stop at a border crossing and get our passport stamped just to get from here to there. In 2007 we only accidentally crossed into South Carolina and more on our travels here will have to wait for later years.
