Gallopalooza is a somewhat erratic ongoing program to place decorated horses in the Louisville area with the proceeds from the sponsors being used in community beautification projects. We got a list of the current exhibits, found several remaining from prior year efforts, and chased them as part of exploring the city. Like a scavenger hunt we got an amazing haul that I'll pack into this page without a whole lot of commentary. Mostly the horses speak for themselves but I'll try to name them if I can.
Louis Horse
is next to the fountain, Race To Justice
is carrying the law book, and Play House
is the green guy. The trojan horse in the convention center was not actually named.
Some of the horses are so different that I had to get both sides like the blue one here called Five Star General
. Went To Market
here shows another basic style. Try to count the few styles available as the professor always said An exercise left for the student.
A Horse Divided
uses to two sides to contrast two of the major team mascots and the competition for fans. The jig saw puzzle Assault
just assults the senses.
I did not get a name for the blue horse with the flaming phoenix. Laying down is Lou E Ville
in front of the Visitors Center and Genuine Risk
is appropriately standing in front of a bar.
The blue guy in the middle was named Imperial
.
Hope In The Garden
is laying at the entrance to Yew Dell Gardens but I don't have the name for the one Lori is not quite sure about. If it was a cow she would definitely heading for the nearest tree since cows really really don't like her.
The Race To Recycle
is so covered in green it's hard to pick out the crushed items he is representing. Placed in front of a Wal-Mart I got the second shot to show the rotating ball fountain. The other horse is named Wait And See
.
In contrast to most of the others South End Boy
is one of the most minimally decorated especially compared to Enviro-gentle
.
Back to the more colorful we have Midnight Thunder
in black and white, Diamond Dancer
with the white head, and Down The Stretch
with the red head.
Go For Chux
is another with very different sides and Belle
was laying down by the waterfront near where the tour boats leave on their cruse.
Prancing we have Pure Finish
, then Hearts Above The Rest
in black, and Sky The Limit
with blue and a sunset/sunrise streaming down the side.
All turned and facing the other way we have Champion City
in blinding yellow, Deco Echo
in the middle, and the patriotic theme Sea Heros
.
Another lengthy theme requiring both sides is Share The Road
promoting bicycle and motorcycle safety with Porcini
just standing looking great.
LeRoy
is prancing and Kroger
is a riot of color on both sides
Finally finishing up is the bright pink Cure Intention
promoting breast cancer research. Realator
is a prior year leftover urging you to take off and fly or just flying off with your money I'm not sure but if you peek at the right edge you can see part of our old red truck in the background.
Well maybe not quite as done as I thought. Those above were the ones we found in August and now I got to September and found I did not get them all by a long shot. The two sides of Heartbeat
recognize ER services and Thoroughblue
was lazing on the sidewalk.
Buck head
is standing in the grass, Spend A Buck
is quite appropriately standing outside the luxury Galt Hotel entry, and Nanz
covered in flowers stands outside the Nanz and Kraft Flower Shop
And finishing for real this time is Gross
in gold named for Gross Diamonds located in the store behind him, Keep Em Smilin
covered in roses, and Real Quiet
in the ultra loud costume. Hope you enjoyed them as much as we did chasing them all over town.
