Since we had purchased a membership at Miller Park Zoo we were now embarked on using it to visit all the zoos we encountered in our travels. While Alexandria is not a large city the Alexandria Zoo is excellent.
Almost every zoo has one of these trains to make a circuit of the animal enclosures and occasionally even giving a different perspective than the walkways. This is not Florida which will come up a little later in the year but it is still the south and the flamingos are right at home.
Actually the flamingos seem to be right at home in most climates although they tend to have warmer quarters if the winters are severe. I seem to have gotten carried away with the birds here although I am not real good at identification. The bluish with the red should be a Sand Hill Crane and the guy with the black neck is obviously a Black Necked Swan.
The beaked head here is rather obviously a crane of some type but these pictures are from before I started to photograph the identification plaques along with the animals. The Alligator is also rather obvious and the pool to see them from the fish side view was unique in the zoos we have visited.
The otters were running all over their enclosure until we passed by and they seem to be asking if there is any food. In late afternoon it should be just about feeding time although the squirrel seems perfectly capable of helping himself. The peacock was rather shy but we like the back side best anyway.
I don't remember the tigers or bears so the deer will have to do.
