On our first visit to this area we actually stayed about 30 miles south in American Fork and focused primarily on surrounding attractions like the Red Butte Garden to the east, the Bingham Canyon Mine to the west, and Timpanogos Cave to the east of American Fork.
The only in city attraction we did visit on a very cold misty miserable day was the Mormon Heritage Village describing their migration and early settlement of the region.
Of special note is the cart behind the family giving thanks for their safe arrival. It was rather typical for a family to have all their belongings in a small cart like this which was pushed by hand for hundreds of miles rather than the covered wagons pulled by animals shown in the mural.
One of my favorites in the Visitor's Center displays was this scale model of the sugar processing house made out sugar. I assume no one can figure out that I have something of a sweet tooth.
