The second attraction we found in Decatur, Illinois was the Scovill Garden which we expected to be a Oriental garden but it turns out it is mostly a wedding venue. We enjoyed the Anna Bethel Fisher Rock Garden a lot more.
Probably our first indicator of something amiss was the broken gate in the entry to the Oriental Garden area. Then the water feature which is central to a Japanese Garden was not functional and did not look like it had been for a long time. The park website claims the garden is currently in much better condition but on our visit everything seemed focused on the gazebo for weddings.
This was also shown as a sculpture park but I did not see anything other than these components of the Oriental Garden. The website shows some more modernistic art and we may make a return visit when we come back to the rock garden.
