A lot of Indianapolis attractions are based around the White River State Park just west of downtown. The park itself includes the Indianapolis Zoo, and the Indianapolis Botanical and is very close to the Eiteljorg Museum which are available with these links or the tabs above as well as many other attractions.
From the White River SP we explored a large part of the canal walk which is amazing in the middle of a major city. A lot of people took advantage of the paddle boats and I found a location I could use to launch my kayak but it was still a long carry in the summer heat.
Indianapolis also boasts an extensive park and trail system. Back before Lori lost her balance and we could still ride bikes we rode most of the parts along the White River. I'm not sure which park had the Great Blue Heron but the unique house was in the Art Museum yard.
