In 2011 we only dipped into the very northwestern corner of Georgia to visit Cloudland Canyon as part of our Chattanooga, Tennessee visit. Well, we also crossed the border a few times since gas was cheaper on the Georgia side close to our motel.
After most of January in Montgomery, Alabama and now mostly recovered we needed to get back meandering to Columbus, Ohio by early March. This time we picked the route stopping in Atlanta for a couple of weeks and then northward on the standard Florda-Ohio snowbird route.
Along the way we wanted to visit Callaway Garden again since it was free in January and February, The rest of the year it is a rather expensive resort even for seniors. Both because of the costs at Callaway and the nice weather we stayed at the really nice R. Shaefer Heard Campground on West Point Lake twenty some miles to the west and almost back into Alabama. This time of year the sunset across the lake is rather nice, even the tomahawk in the sky.
After a couple weeks freezing in Tallahassee, FL we hoped the really cold weather was done and we headed up to Macon as a base for exploring central Georgia. Mostly we wanted to visit the Massey Lane Garden in nearby Fort Valley which really does not have good choices of food or lodging.
Our first day trip into Georgia was the Callaway Garden visit as part of my photography seminar at Auburn University in eastern Alabama. After the seminar we mostly used US-27 to go up the western edge to Chattanooga, Tennessee and then back to Columbus, Ohio. After an intense week of meetings, meals, and photography I was basically photoed out so I don't have pictures for that area.
Later in early October we again crossed just the very northeastern tip of Georgia following US-76 from our stay in Charlotte, North Carolina again to Chattanooga, Tennessee and then back to Columbus, Ohio. This time I managed to catch these roadside wild flowers when we stopped for a short break.
